Gianluca

My name is Gianluca and I am an archaeologist. I grew up traveling through the Mediterranean countries, the Near East and from Central Asia up to Samarkand, along the Silk Road. I have spent several years in Rome, where I completed my education. Now I live in a farming village in Sicily. I prefer living in a small town rather than in a city because of two reasons mainly. Firstly, I enjoy a more direct relationship with people and friends. Secondly, wine is the excellence in my village. However, I do not spend all my time there. I travel a lot between central and southern Italy, Greece and Turkey because of my job and academic researches. I love the sea and we will discover my island together from a different perspective, steeped in History and surrounded by Beauty.

Awesome tour of Selinunte
We reserved the half day tour of Selinunte, the Greek historical site on Sicily's west coast and were thrilled with the experience of seeing this amazing heritage site with the knowledgeable guide Gianluca from Uncovered Sicily. He tailored the visit to our interests while revealing things we never would have learned from a book or conventional guide. His command of English was excellent and he was enthusiastic and patient and really a pleasure to spend the day with. I would definitely request him again on another visit!

Very interesting Ancient Greek site
This is a very interesting Ancient Greek site that can be easily reached on a day trip from Palermo. In addition to vast ruins in 2 separate locations, there is a very well preserved Greek temple that you can walk through and touch i.e. no barricades. We visited in late November when the site was virtually empty. I highly recommend using a local guide and endorse Gianluca. He was interesting, very enthusiastic and totally across the subject. He not only told us about the site but also the historical context. Gianluca has a PhD in Archeology and his English language skills are very good.
