Alessandro Rustico Founder

What I love most about my job is sharing my passion for the land with others and spreading knowledge of the territory and culture of Sicily as I know her. I am always delighted to guide my visitors into an unconventional world of archaeology, food, wine and traditions. According to me, a place must not only be visited, but felt and lived in all of its multifaceted features. This is the concept I have of any excursion. We must not be tourists, we have to be part of the society in which we stay, blending our customs with their way to live. I think that this belief, in combination with my expertise acquired through extensive and continuing academic research and high-grade studies, makes me a totally different kind of tour guide.

According to me "Sicily must be experienced, leisurely and in depth". This is the philosophy through which I live on my island and with which I launched Uncovered Sicily with Giuliana Occhipinti in 2013.

Excellent tour and guide to Sicily
Alessandro was a talented guide with the extraordinary ability to engage anyone and adapt his communication and vast trove of knowledge. He could seamlessly weave cooking, horticulture, and archeology into a thoroughly enjoyable day of exploration. Highly recommended!

Un solo consiglio. Uncovered Sicily!

Absolutely FANTASTIC guide
We did a tour of Ortigia focused on Siracusa's Jewish history. Alessandro was the best guide I have ever had in my life. Let me count the ways: - extremely knowledgable about the subject - a nuanced understanding of history an immigration patterns - came prepared with visuals (laminated images and texts, books, etc.) - energetic (the tour was long and Alessandro never seemed to tire!) - curiosity (he also wanted to learn from us about related topics we were passionate about)

Top notch tour of Ragusa
Alessandro’s passion for Ragusa and Italian life was obvious from the moment he met us in Ragusa. He is a brilliant scholar of the area from geological formation of the earthquake prone area through the baroque period and beyond. The visit to Ragusa was well worth the trip from Siracusa which we did in our rental car. And thanks to Alessandro it was awesome.

Experiencing Sicily!
What a wonderful experience. Because we only had limited time in Sicily, we knew we needed help to best use our time and we were fortunate to find Alessandro. We spent one and a half days with him in Siracusa, Noto, Modica and a great little fishing village on the south east tip of Sicily. Our time was so efficient and pleasurable ... we learned a lot (Alessandro was an encyclopedia of history!) and felt that we were really able to "experience" Sicily and its culture ... not just see it. We enjoyed the knowledge and the passion that Alessandro has in such a wide range of topics ... our tour had many highlights, but we particularly enjoyed being able to have lunch in the fishing village of Portopalo di C.P. and discussing such a wide range of historical, political and cultural topics. There were so many “hidden treasures” as well … some of them in “plain sight” … like the best place of a “granita” … or the best place of a cannolo !!! … Thanks Alessandro!

Wonderful day tour of Ragusa and Modica
We just spent the day with Allesandro, who was wonderful and full of details and important history! We toured New Ragusa and Ragusa Ibla. He also took us to a working Watermill where we saw the production of flour and had a wonderful lunch. After we toured Modica. Fantastic experience and wonderful day! His staff also helped us with plans for our upcoming days. We highly recommend this tour company!!

Great day in Siracusa and Ortygia!
My husband and I had a custom tour of Siracusa's archaeological park and Ortygia with a winery tour and tasting at the end of the day. Alessandro was an extremely informative guide, knowledgeable about ancient and modern history as well as the foods and wines of the region. Uncovered Sicily worked with us to create the perfect day that hit all the things we wanted to see and do in the region, and we thought the price was extremely reasonable for the quality of the tour and guide. You can't go wrong with Alessandro or Uncovered Sicily!

See the Real Sicily with the Experts
Our guides, Alessandro and Paolo, were very knowledgeable and took us to places we would not have found on our own-and certainly never would have seen if we were on a bus! Both guides spoke good English, helped us with our Italian, and explained the history behind what we were seeing. A special shout out to Alessandro for sharing his restaurant recommendations and giving us a glimpse of his childhood visiting the dairy farm.

Highly recommended
We spent a fantastic afternoon in Ortygia with Alessandro. He was warm and friendly and explained the island's history and culture to us at a perfect pace as walked from place to place. His vast knowledge gave us a depth of understanding about the place we could never have achieved otherwise. Worth every penny/cent/euro.

Outstanding!!
Toured Siracusa/Ortigia with Alessandro Laura and Alessandro are post doc trained archeologists. They were extremely knowledgeable about the sites, and were expert in explaining the historical context. They were both delightful, articulate, and passionate about the subject matter. Highest recommendation...a must if you are touring Sicily.

PER I PATITI DELLA MAGNA GRECIA
La prima volta è stato nel 2015. Siamo rimasti folgorati.
