Towards the South

Towards the South

Ancient sailors knew the southern end of Sicily, which is touched by the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas, by the name of Promontorium Pachyni; it represented a fundamental landmark in the geography of the Mediterranean Sea. The history of these places has always had human beings, the sea and its soil as protagonists under the Greeks, the Byzantines, the Arabs and the Spanish. Tuna fishing and vines, both already practiced during the Greek era, have left a deep mark in the population’s soul and culture, thus changing the profile of these sunny places for ever.
