An Introduction to Palermo

Palermo is a big city and has to be experienced a little at a time to uncover its most interesting and hidden glories. If you wish to capture the very essence of the city, we highly suggest taking this introductory guided stroll in the historic center, the beating heart of the city.

The first and unmissable stop of our walking tour will be the “Mercato del Capo”, one of the oldest and most authentic open-air markets, where you can find more than you can ever imagine, in addition to the usual fruit, vegetables, spices, meat and fish. Discover this colourful and noisy market and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere among delicious, tempting aromas of the local street-food and vendors calling out to attract the attention of the shoppers.

We will walk along the main street known as "Cassaro", visit the cathedral, the symbol of the city and then reach the Four Corners, the well-known octagonal square where the two major roads cross each other.

Our expert-led private tour will end with a visit to the magnificent Piazza Pretoria and the curious narrative of its “Fountain of Shame”. Behind here we will go to Piazza Bellini with its two stunning churches: San Cataldo and La Martorana, the result of Arab-Norman and Baroque influences.
