Tindari: between sacred and profane

Let a wonderful scenery made of landscape, archaeology and faith seduce you. Tindari has all these characteristics. It is a touristic town mainly renowned for the Black Virgin’s majestic sanctuary, which rises with its sumptuous and big features on the highest top of the hill, and the monumental archaeological remains of the ancient Tyndaris, which was founded by Dyonisius the Elder in 396 BC and called “nobilissimma civitas” by Cicero. This is considered one of the most charming and well-preserved archaeological sites in Sicily. It brings tourists back to the routine of a splendid ancient town by looking at the ruins of an amazing Greek-Roman theatre, rich domus (houses) with mosaic floors and many other monumental buildings.
