Our private cultural tour begins at the Cathedral, which is the symbol of the re-birth of the city. Reconstructed on the ruins of the original Norman cathedral, it stands as a testament to resilience and history. Adjacent to it rises the impressive bell tower, home to one of the largest and most complex mechanical-astronomical clocks in Europe - a true marvel of engineering and artistry.
Not too far from here, Montorsoli (one of Michelangelo’s pupils) built the Fountain of Orion, that the art historian Berenson considered as the most beautiful 16th-century European fountain.
As we continue, we’ll visit two more architectural gems: the Church of SS. Annunziata dei Catalani, a striking example of Arab-Norman art in Sicily, and Santa Maria Alemanna, one of the rarest pure Gothic churches on the island.
Our final stop will be the “Maria Accascina” Regional Museum, where you’ll have the chance to admire extraordinary masterpieces by Antonello da Messina and Caravaggio - a perfect ending to a journey through art, history, and beauty.
