This tour will take you on a journey to discover the ancient maritime traditions and the life of fishermen along the stunning coast of Trapani, between Scopello and Castellammare del Golfo. Through a cultural and emotional experience, our guide will accompany you through these two fishing villages that have played an essential role in the history of tuna fishing - and more - in Western Sicily.
You will begin this adventure at the Baglio di Scopello, famous for its dramatic sea stacks. Here you will delve into the history of the tonnara (tuna fishery) and the vital role it has always held in the local economy.
You will then move to Castellammare del Golfo, a picturesque seaside town where many locals still live from fishing and the sea all year round. You will meet some local fishermen, who will open the doors to their world for you. Next, you will board a lancia, a traditional local boat, and visit the house-museum of the last tonnaroto (tuna fisherman) of Scopello, whose passion will bring the ancient rite of tuna fishing back to life.
But a tour about maritime traditions wouldn't be complete without the flavors of the sea, which our fishermen will have the pleasure of cooking with you and sharing in the simple yet unique atmosphere of everyday life.
Upon request, the tour can be done by bike and the day can be enriched with a fishing tourism experience.
