An exclusive experience to discover one of the Mediterranean’s oldest traditions.
In the waters of the Strait of Messina, an ancient tradition still survives today: swordfish fishing. Aboard one of the last “feluche” (the traditional fishing boats used to catch swordfish in this area), you'll enter a world of sea, currents, wind, and gestures passed down from generation to generation.
You'll be accompanied by our food and wine guide who will share with you the millennia-old culture of swordfish fishing. Once you reach the “feluca”, you'll meet its crew. The fishermen themselves will teach you how to read the sea, recognize currents, and use traditional tools. From the boat, you'll experience the anticipation and excitement of fishing firsthand, while listening to stories of the sea, faith, and superstitions passed down through generations.
Not just a simple excursion, but privileged access to an ancient culture that is still alive.
After a few hours on the Strait of Messina, we'll head to the home of a local cook, who will welcome you for a private lunch. In an intimate and authentic atmosphere, you’ll discover the flavors of the sea and the land through traditional dishes from the Strait, whose true protagonist will be the swordfish itself.
When: The tour is available only from June through July, the only period during which swordfish fishing is permitted in the Strait of Messina.
